Buzzfeed has posted the clip explaining where the Pineapple came from on their website. I don't know how to embed the video into the LJ post, but here's the link to the article containing the clip.

Personally I think it not only contradicts the statement, but just feels kind of thrown in there to answer the question. XD; It is a little amusing, I'll give it that.

I also feel like it's one of those things that maybe the audience could have been privy to, without Ted knowing. Sort of like the Weird Al ending tag. It could have been the same scene, but just the captain talking to a maid or something, and the audience is left on their own to make the connection.

I thought, had they got himyd, they could have shown one of the characters having a flashback to 2005 and, as it's in the same universe as himym, they could have shown drunk Ted in the background getting the pineapple. That would have been a clever way to merge the shows and solve a mystery without being intrusive.

I just saw this too and first and foremost it bugs me just because it never mattered where the stupid pineapple came from and the casual fans who are obsessed with it drive me crazy! Furthermore, like you said, Future Ted made it very clear that they didn't know the answer as of 2030, so once again continuity and canon are totally ignored here.

And how stupid is it that it came from the Captain? This just reiterates that CT/CB are crappy writers.

Yeah, it totally ignores the continuity.

Haha, yeah. The Captain didn't really need to be featured so much in the show at all, if we come down to it. I think they just liked the actor and wanted to keep bringing him back.

This was just another thing to appease that stupid season 1 plot and story there was no reason to even show it at all. It's just thrown in there because they didn't care about a good story to tell from it. CFB and CT are clearly the most smallest minds ever how on earth will they ever get work again with such little peanut sized brains?

This is so laughable that I have nothing else to say.

Also, there's a scene in "Third Wheel" which shows Ted making out with Trudy and holding the pineapple and, while this scene doesn't quite contradict it, it seems quite unlikely he was making out with the pineapple whilst taking Trudy home.

At the end of the day it was just a stupid scene with no deep meaning - which shows exactly why only casual fans cared about it in the first place. (And why the hell are they leaking it when they're only including it on the full series boxset, are they trying to stop all their dvd sales?)

ETA: all but one of the buzzfeed comments say it's stupid, anticlimatic or that it contradicts the show. Well done CBCT way to piss off even your casual fans!!

Well, at least this had nothing to do with Robin it was stupid drunken Ted stealing things again. He has some major stealing issues, he needs to see physiologist.

Anyways, Aye Aye Captain love seeing him.

It was cute, it made sense for The Captain, it gave Ted trepidation and he tried to make out with a pineapple. Most importantly, they didn't use it to slam B/R, so I'm fine with it.

On the other hand, Future Ted already said they never found out, so it does contradict, but at this point, I don't care. It was cute.
