Not even the Mother on 'How I Met Your Mother' knows her name yet
Though it has remained an abstraction for most of this TV season, the final episode of How I Met Your Mother is slowly coming into focus. This week, co-creator Craig Thomas tweeted a photo of the cover of the 95-page HIMYM finale, which is titled “Last Forever,” and production is already underway on the show’s final batch of episodes.
But don’t expect very many spoilers or leaks to surface just because the script is now in circulation. “It exists, but I have not glimpsed it,” admits actress Cristin Milioti, who joined the cast this season as the titular Mother. “There’s been discussion. It’s CIA-level lockdown. Our scripts are watermarked, and it feels really cool.”
Milioti, who also can be seen in the Oscar-nominated Martin Scorsese flick The Wolf of Wall Street, has deeply enjoyed her time on the show-especially the just-aired 200th episode, which cracked open eight years’ worth of mythology about the mysterious Mother and ended with Milioti’s character performing “La Vie En Rose” on a ukulele. “That 200th episode was incredible,” Milioti says. I couldn’t believe that people had gotten together and went, ‘Let’s do this for her.’ I felt like Batkid.”
Still, despite all of the back story that 200th episode filled in, there’s still one pretty large detail that we don’t know: The Mother’s actual name. Does Milioti even know? “I don’t,” she says. “I don’t know if it’s because they think I’m a terrible liar, but no, I have not been told that. It’s very much on lockdown.”
However, despite the dearth of information currently available, Milioti would like to put devotees of HIMYM at ease. “I know this sounds like an executive from CBS is passing me a piece of paper, but [the finale] will not disappoint,” she says. “It’s been in great hands for nine years, and they love their fans. I think everyone’s going to really love the finale.”
