CHRONOLOGY: One month after episode 13, during the timeskip
CLASS: Hero
SUPERHERO NAME: n/a
ALTER EGO: Barnaby doesn't keep a secret identity.

BACKGROUND:
Tiger & Bunny takes place in a futuristic metropolis named Sternbild. The city has many layers supported by pillars and statues, and is populated by all sorts of people. 45 years prior to modern events, people started to display various superpowers, and were deemed NEXTs. At first, NEXTs were highly feared and prosecuted by the general public. One man, Albert Maverick, sought to change the public perception by starting a TV show called HeroTV, which starred highly-produced and eventually corporation-sponsored heroes who fought crime with their NEXT powers. A hero by the name of Mr. Legend paved the way for many heroes to come.

Barnaby Brooks Jr. is such a hero. Debuting to the public at 23 years of age, he is quickly called a super rookie. Barnaby was educated at an academy designed to create heroes, and graduated with a very clear goal: revenge. When Barnaby was four years old, he witnessed the murder of both his parents. The memory has haunted him since, but he mysteriously cannot remember the face of the murderer. He was attracted to heroing for the sake of finding this murderer and bringing him to justice. His search thus far has been futile, as the only piece of information retained in his memory is an insignia on the murderer's hand.

Upon joining the HeroTV lineup, his corporate sponsor decides on a multipurpose gimmick. Barnaby is to be paired with an existing hero by the name of Wild Tiger (real name Kotetsu). Wild Tiger is the longest running hero currently, but is suffering major popularity pitfalls. He also happens to have the same exact NEXT power as Barnaby. With the hopes that creating the first tag team of heroes could make Wild Tiger and Barnaby alike more marketable, the two are forced to work together, against both of their wishes.

The two are prickly to say the least. They start out stepping on each others toes and hurting each other's points rather than helping. Tiger flat out refuses to play nice, and Barnaby only does so for the cameras. This slowly starts to change as more questions about Barnaby's parents' mysterious murderer come to light, and he learns more of Kotetsu's caring and selfless side.

A man with the same insignia tattooed on his neck is apprehended. However, the lead ends up taking him nowhere, as the man is almost immediately killed by a rogue NEXT who calls himself Lunatic. Barnaby and Kotetsu pursue Lunatic under suspicions that he has something to do with the mysterious mark. After a scuffle in which Kotetsu takes a hit for his partner, the duo learns that Lunatic is uninvolved. However, the image of Kotetsu blindly protecting Barnaby is etched in his mind.

Memories are coming into clearer focus for Barnaby. When Kotetsu is forced to take vacation days, Barnaby stumbles upon a the dossier of a NEXT named Jake Martinez, who is currently locked away in prison. He instantly recognizes him as the murderer of his parents, those 20 years ago. Barnaby rushes out the door to confirm his suspicions by seeing the man in person, but on the way, multiple terrorist attacks strike Sternbild. Despite his partner's reassurance that he and the other heroes can handle the attacks, Barnaby decides the prison visit can wait, and appears at Wild Tiger's side.

However, the person behind the attacks makes their demands: to free her leader Jake Martinez. In order to save the city, the mayor agrees on his release. Jake has other plans, deciding it would be more fun to fight each hero in succession for the cameras, to crush the city's morale before crushing the city itself. Three heroes fall to Jake before Barnaby is selected to fight, including Wild Tiger. The citizens of Sternbild are feeling desperate, so Maverick asks Barnaby to reveal his motives and troubled past to the public. He does so, reluctantly.

Barnaby approaches the man he believes to have killed his parents with calm resolution. He has trained his entire life for this moment. But even Barnaby's poise isn't enough, and he is soon at a major disadvantage. The still-injured Wild Tiger arrives, carrying a flash bomb and a theory on Jake's mysterious abilities. Barnaby is wary to believe him, until he notices Tiger's blood on the bomb. He asks Barnaby to trust him, and Barnaby does. The flash bomb is just enough to throw off Jake's mind reading powers, and Barnaby claims victory. Peace returns to Sternbild city.

Barnaby will be ported to the city a month after this event. He believes he has finally avenged his parents' death, and is starting to experience the life he had lost mercilessly focused on revenge.

PERSONALITY:
At first glance, Barnaby is polite to a fault, charming and sociable. However, he is simply well-practiced at performing for the public. When the cameras are off, he acts cold and uncaring, and locks out any sort of friendship beyond casual acquaintance. He prides himself in his efficiency, logic and analysis and frowns on acting on instinct. However, he has a temper and knows himself to react recklessly and violently when triggered. If he had his way, he'd keep his emotions to himself and his focus narrowed at all times. He is competitive and driven, and is still rising quickly in the hero rankings. He is even competitive in normal conversation, and prefers to get the last word in always.

Since most of his life involved seeking revenge for his murdered parents, Barnaby has learned to shut out anything not involving his own interests while pretending otherwise. He is slow to show his true personality, and even slower to trust. Even after the death of Jake, his friendship with his coworkers, namely Kotetsu, is rocky, and he switches back and forth between his snippy, independent persona and a slightly warmer almost-friendship. Trust is still a touchy issue with him, and the thought that someone has betrayed his trust would be deeply disturbing to him.

Not used to having friends, Barnaby still dresses up selfless acts as accidents and tends to openly tease others. While he claims to only care about earning points according to the game show-like system of HeroTV, he doesn't like to see suffering or death as much as any other moral person. His sympathies have been amped up by spending time with Wild Tiger, adapting some of his old-fashioned values without being completely aware of it. Barnaby also has a soft spot for happy families.

Since I am taking him from shortly after the Jake incident, Barnaby retains residual rage and torment, but is starting to see the world in a new light. He has few hobbies outside of training and studying, so everything reads as a new experience to him. He will definitely have difficulties admitting to you know, having fun doing anything at all.

POWER:
Barnaby's canon ability is called Hundred Power. Like the name hints at, Barnaby is able to increase his physical functions one hundred fold. This includes, but isn't limited to, physical strength, speed, endurance, resilience, jumping ability and healing. However, once activated, Hundred Power lasts exactly five minutes. When the five minutes are up, Barnaby reverts to his normal levels, and cannot activate his power again until an hour has passed.

In addition to this superpower, Barnaby will be arriving in the city with his power suit. The suit is made from a light, but resilient material that is shown to be fire and bullet proof to an impressive extent. The suit is also equipped with a computer system that enhances and annotates the vision through the mask. When his Hundred Power is activated, parts of the suit glow and a countdown clock is activated, indicating to Barnaby how much time remains. There also appears to be some sort of thruster equipped to the back of the suit, which doesn't allow flight, but merely aids Barnaby's jumps. The most flashy feature of the suit is called "Good Luck Mode" by its creator, and involves the leg of the suit transforming and expanding to comical proportions. This feature does not actually enhance performance in any way.

[The video flips on without a hitch, showing the head and shoulders of white and red power suit. The visor on the helmet is flipped up, and the youthful face of its wearer is clear. Although his expression is measured, there is an edge of uncertainty tugging at the corners of his mouth.] Ah. Greetings, citizens. This is Barnaby Brooks Jr. I've gathered that this is not my normal location, and you have never seen me before. No matter. [He smiles, but his voice darkens as he looks offscreen.] This network deserves a cordial hello, at least. That is all-

[His finger hovers over the end button, before he withdraws it. Lips are pursed.] On second thought. If anyone comes across a man dressed in a similar robotic-like suit… don't feed his ego. I'll find him soon enough, if he's here. [A sigh and the video turns off.]

LOGS POST (THIRD PERSON) SAMPLE:
Barnaby was intimately familiar with silence. He lived alone, and had since his early teens. Radio and television sometimes haunted his sparce rooms, but the lack thereof was infinitely more common. Silence didn't bring up memories, silence didn't distract. Since becoming a hero proper, he found himself escaping to its embrace more often. No sirens, no grating voices in his ear, no phone calls, emergency calls, interview calls, nothing.

So why was his old friend so unnerving now, in this place?

Barnaby sat alone. A stone wall in an urban park. The location wasn't important, the entire city was strange and new. And there were no calls. He held his phone in his lap, watching the blank, deactivated display with a foreign curiosity. Was it really never going to ring again? Was that chapter in his life truly over, abrupt as the ending may have been? Perhaps the noise and commotion had turned comforting without him really noticing. He clenched the device in his fist.

As he eased down from the wall, he was nearly plowed over by a pair of children. They dashed, laughed, and weaved around either side of him. One stopped to attempt an apology, but that was his first mistake. The other-his sister, perhaps-rushed in and slapped her palm soundly against the boy's shoulder. He was now it. She took off like a rocket. He shouted, stamped his foot, then nearly bumped into Barnaby again in his hurry to give chase.

The children were noisy. Leaves rattled, dogs barked, cars rolled over asphalt. Maybe the silence was only in his head all along. Barnaby leaned against the wall and suppressed a smile.
