Aglet! Ankh! Arachnid!

In the course of reading other Live Journals, I have discovered that it is considered polite to conceal long entries behind an identifying phrase or sentence, which the reader can then click upon if they so desire.

The Dictation Quill that Severus had sent to me is perfect. And the purple goes wonderfully with my second-favorite dressing-gown. Today, Michael modified it (the quill, not the gown) so that it would work with the computer, as well.

The quill alone makes a significant difference -- for both my paperwork and my computer work. I already begin to wonder how I ever muddled by without it. Between the quill, the salve and the painkilling potion (all provided by Severus), I will admit to feeling much better lately. I really must thank him. Despite his caustic wit and deliberately forbidding exterior, he is a loyal, considerate and caring man. I only wish more people realized that.

(Trrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.)

Oh, how delightful! The quill responds to Fawkes, as well! I wish I could treat my few readers to a more accurate rendition of his song. I recall Michael telling me that it was possible to record audio material with Empty-Three files, but the process is probably far too complicated for me.

Today I had tea with Cataleptia, who still works at St. Mungo's. While she agrees that the children might benefit from a counselor or guide, she warns me that finding a qualified one -- and addressing the furor that such a step might cause among parents and School Board members -- will be difficult. Her own efforts to increase the use of non-magical methods of mental treatment and counseling at the hospital continue to meet with much resistance, especially since there are no mediwizard-approved credentials for this branch of study. But she does note that there are a few practitioners and researchers of these types of treatment (inspired, apparently, by the aftermath of the war) among us, and will direct me to the few that she knows.

That reminds me: Miss Granger will be coming for tea tomorrow. Perhaps she will know a few things about these matters.

Back to more cheerful developments. My plans for my Halloween costume continue apace. I shall go into London sometime this week to acquire the material components of it. I have been reading contemporary fashion websites and am beginning to acquire some idea of what I will need.

Flitwick has also been helping with the magical aspect of my costume. The tricky part of developing the charm is not so much the changing symbols as it is determining the exact nature of the link to the subject. It would be much easier to configure the charm so that it flashed random symbols at periodic intervals -- but that seems simultaneously inelegant and unsatisfying. I suppose I could add a Legilimency component to it, but that would be complicated and, depending on the subject, somewhat risky. Perhaps something along the lines of the Dictation Quill -- we could configure the charm to respond to certain verbal or even physical cues....

These LJ-Cuts are quite nice-looking, if I do say so myself.
