I don't think my job is in any danger from these
robot bartenders, but the story is entertaining.
Thank you to Barmaid Blog reader Jessica (no, not that one - this one is actually named Jessica) for sending me "Why Do Men Fall Asleep After Sex?" from my Amazon wishlist, I'm looking forward to some answers on that one! I mean, I know with
Warren it was our divergent sleep schedules. And I guess it probably also would be (will be, I hope) with whoever is next, unless I date someone as nocturnal as I am... but now I'll know the actual, scientific answer.
Also, thank you to reader Paul for sending me "House" season two on DVD! I swear, I put a link to my wishlist on my blog on a whim, as a total gag, but it's a very sweet gesture when people who live in my computer send me stuff just to thank me for writing a blog about my job and my life, which I would be doing anyway, gifts or not. I'm very blessed, and you're a generous bunch of ones and zeros!
Speaking of gifts, Hannukah is coming up later this week - it starts at sundown on Friday. My (getting very pregnant) cousin Rebecca and her husband Paul are hosting the family celebration, and I can't wait! There's no better excuse for eating fried potato pancakes and jelly donuts than that your religion requires it in order to celebrate a minor military victory and a miracle involving lamp oil a few thousand years ago.
But I still don't know what to buy as a gift for my father. He's very difficult to shop for, because if he wants something, he tends to go out and get it himself. I know for certain he doesn't have an Amazon wishlist, and any time I ask him what he wants for Hannukah or his birthday, he just shrugs and says, "I don't need anything." Well, of course not, but "need" isn't the point - I'd love to do something for him that he wants, or would enjoy. I don't know... he's never let me buy him a meal in his life, maybe that's the way to go? It's a tough call. Does anybody else have trouble buying gifts for their parents?
I'm heading down to the Bar shortly; the owners, Lanie and Victor, have called a mandatory meeting for all staff this afternoon. I think it's probably just about the holidays - at least I hope it's nothing more serious.
