Yes, it's almost halfway through the year and I'm just now posting what I've been reading. So sue me. :D Maybe I'll even get up the oomph to write a real post after this one.

Amy!

LOVE the Secret Garden. One of my favorite kids' books. Having read it as a kid, though, I remember being confused about why she was living in India. I think I'll explain that stuff when it's time to read it to my kids.

Also love Jane Austen! It's hard to have favorites, but I do particularly like Persuasion and Mansfield Park. Maybe because the heroines aren't so obviously heroic. :)

PS - the MacDonald book I listed above is also technically a kids' book, the sequel to The Princess and the Goblin. Both would make awesome read-aloud books (when your kids can do a chapter a night or whatever - they're not short).

I think I have The Princess and the Goblin!

Right now, we're reading the Wizard of Oz. It's kind of rough going, though, because I don't really like reading out loud. :p

Interesting fact: not that I agree with anything else he believes, but the Dalai Lama said when he was here (I heard from a friend) that the number one way kids learn compassion is being read to aloud. I guess with different voices, etc. it teaches them to put themselves in the characters' shoes. Verrrry interesting.

Maybe? But it doesn't make me love reading outloud :D

I find it easier now that Randall is capable of understanding more difficult (and therefore more interesting) stories. And he's gotten better at listening without interrupting.
