It seems like pain is the default in my life right now. It is not like I do not have times where things are enjoyable and fun. Like the solstice party last weekend, or the canoe trip pre Lake Southern Wisconsin, or the times spent with good friends hanging out and eating ...yes...hot dogs...good job busman . I love you. I know how you feel. Pain has been in my life for many years, and you know my coping strategies. I'm really sorry this is happening to you again. You've successfully dealt with this in the past, but reminding you of that probably doesn't help either.

And, yes, the skeeters are particularly bad, aren't they? I got bit about 10 times this morning just walking to the bus stop. But have you heard of these skeeter repellent patches?

I know you don't have the energy to do anything outside, but it might be nice to at least BE outside. I'm thinking I'm going to get some for our trip to the TTF.

I'm also going to suggest a couple of things:

Find a new mental health therapist - yeah, I know... but your doctor might be able to refer you to a chronic pain specialist who could help you

Find a hypnotist who can help you put your pain in a different place (my mom used it for childbirth, since she couldn't do the anesthesia thing)

Find a massage therapist or acupuncturist who is familiar with edema, pain and steroidal side effects

Get a meditation tape or CD to help you find the healthy parts of your brain - they are in there, I just know it!

Call your friends, homebound during the day or at home in the evening, and just talk and talk. Doesn't matter if they've heard it all before.

Yes, these all require you to DO something proactive. That is really the only way out of this, my friend.
