Time for some name dropping!
I got to drive this week:
Richard Gasquet (FRA)
I didn't know it was him until I saw his match yesterday - then the penny dropped and I put two and two together realising I'd driven him on more than one occasion! Honestly, he's an arrogrant Frenchman... no likey... thus, the unattractive pic for this post heh
Vania King (USA)
She and her coach are the NICEST people ever. They are so awesome, and really funny witty people. I'm a new fan of this doubles star!!!
Peter Luczak (AUS)
I had the opportunity to drive him and his adorable family a couple of times the other day to and from the hotel. He plays for Australia and has been making waves this week (he upset Berdych, the number 2 seed, yesterday. Woo!). His wife is Swedish and his kids are the cutest blonde things I've ever seen!!
He's playing later tonight, fingers crossed! Go Luczak!!
I also have been driving some media people, tennis officials and players' coaches.
Often I get a good conversation - or just get to listen to some great conversations - but usually the car is either deathly quiet due to everyone having their own iPods on, or they're chatting in Russian/French/Italian/some other foreign language! That being said, I'm really enjoying this job (unpaid, nonetheless) and if I have the time off again next year I'll definitely come back. The Transport team are really friendly and on days where it's 36C it's definitely choice to be in an Air Con'd luxury car instead of standing around a scolding tennis centre!
So, I'm working the next three nights until End of Play, which means good knows when!!!! I could be there til the early morning if we get more rain delays and long matches. Fingers crossed it won't be too bad... and I wonder who I'll get tonight?
