Work Christmas Party

I totally forgot to write about my Work Christmas Party on Sunday night! It was sooo much better than I was expecting it to be - and I am surprised at how much I enjoyed it considering I was quietly dreading going to it.

We went to Lau's Family Restaurant in St Kilda, where the head chef/owner of the same name is also the guy who runs the famous Flower Drum restaurant in the city. If this is anything to go by, his reputation precedes him.
It's Chinese for for the 5 star palate.

I've never eaten Chinese food that tasted this light and fresh before. Ever. And then there was the exceptional service... My wine glass was never empty (hee.. giddy), but moreso the attentive waitresses would crouch down beside you and describe the tiny bowls of sauce and instruct us to use it with which dish at every course. It was fabulous, I wasn't left guessing what the heck I was eating at any time.

Did I mention the food was deliciously fresh and amazingly flavourful? I know I am going to recommend this restaurant to everyone.. Everything I ate was quite possibly the best I've ever head.
- It was the best springroll because it was wrapped in searing hot deepfried rice paper but extremely light, not full of gooey cabbage but instead of fine vegetables and minced meat, and came with sweet dipping sauce that Id' never tried before.
- The fish had some amazing crispy batter where the the fish inside was still distinguishable as flakes of fish.
- Tiny pieces of pork were drizzled with BBQ sauce alternating juicy meat with succulent crackling.
My goodness.. Then there was the main course: BBQ Vinegar Pork.. If I wasn't mostly full from the 3 or 4 entree courses I would've devoured the rest of this delicious dish. The pork was sliced finely it was still amazingly tender and resembled fine slices of chicken breast than actual pork. Simple plain steamed rice sat beside and calmed the strong flavoured happening here.

Oh - and the best part was that the menu was extremely affordable. I could even afford to eat there! I'm thinking I'll take friends or family there if they come to visit. Definitely worth a second opinion.
