Mystery Solved
My car stinks like a dumpster.
It took me half a week to go from no smell, to there might be a smell, to holy geez I'm going to puke because my car stinks so bad. I was in denial for a couple of days there.. blaming the smell on snowboarding gear in my boot even though I've never had smelly stuff... but then yesterday, all of a sudden, the smell became familiar. And it hit me to what the source was. It stank, not only like dirty dumpster, but suddenly it had an off-milk twange ... and the penny dropped... I realised exactly at that moment what is was - last Sunday night I had left an open bottle of iced coffee in my boot and obviously it's been rolling around all week in there and has been leaking on everything. And I was right. It had leaked all over my (expensive!) snowboarding jackets and boots... not to mention my car carpet. I removed the bottle last night hoping that having removed the source the smell would die down by this morning. In fact, I think it got worse. When I got in my car to drive to work today I spent the whole drive with both windows down "airing" the car out. I left windows open while I was AT work (dont' worry, I can see my car from the desk incase of a break-in). It - the smell - was still alive 8 hours later.
I've resorted to carpet cleaner and deoderizer and sprayed the whole boot with the stuff. Even put some on the front seats - just to be sure. Jesus, it smells SO wrong in my car, it's embarrassing. I can't believe how bad it was today... i was nearly physically sick... and, now I"m having to launder my snowboard jackets very very carefully. That almost scares me more cuz those jackets aren't meant to be washed like that, sometimes. But i've checked.. i just hope I don't screw up the water-repellancy now...
