Hearts and Hearts to Lydia and Josie. And, man, I thought that guy was going to turn out to be married. Turns out he's Josie's son. Ack! Run, Lydia, run! Although. he's kind of charming. Well, his mother's kind of charming too so it's easy to see where he'd get it from. Run, Lydia, run! That can not end well! Hells, I was kind of pissed at him showing up at the office and putting her on the spot like that. There is work and there is social life and the two shouldn't mix and one shouldn't be expected to make social life decisions like that at work! Dude!
I just love what Lydia and Josie's partnership has become. It's fairly awesome. They bristled in the beginning because they're both so used to being right and in charge and then they finally join together to use their forces for good and not evil and it's so enjoyable to watch. When Lydia confesses that she has a date, and then Josie's all, "you go girl!" it feels real. Like Lydia just needs to tell someone and like Josie's genuinely happy for her.
And I just get the biggest kick out of them walking into a crime scene and being in charge and being themselves and it's so refreshing to see that on TV. There's not "I wear my reproductive organs on the inside" bluster. There's just the quiet confidence of someone who knows where they belong.
I thought for sure though that their murder case was going to turn out to be that the son did it and the mom lied to keep the son out of jail and that that dad figured that out and he was so torn about it because while he was willing to go to jail for his kid, he didn't want to leave violent killer kid with the rest of the kids. Yeah.
And then the running past all the fleeing extras! Scary. You just kind of want them to run to safety too and let someone call in the help. But they are the help. And Lydia goes trudging right back in there and saves the day.

Cooper! Going all Dewey on us. Love how Ben goes from "Sir" to "John" on the off the record speech. If I was one of those women in that community lecture group, I'd be pissed at having my time wasted like that. John did everything he could to remove himself from the line of fire today, but still, the point is you can never tell. Hence Lydia's conversation at the shooting range followed up by her end of day tour. Hence Nate dying randomly on the way home. Hence, hence, hence. Get thee some help, John Cooper. So far, all Ben's shots are landing on the vest. He needs to do one to the head to get Cooper to listen.
And Ben is so fucked. He seems to have good instincts, but still, it's gotta be hard to have such an awesome training officer fall to pieces in front of you, and yet still show signs of why he's a great TO.

Dear Tammy and Sammy, I think you should paint the baby's room Go Fuck Yourself on Eggshells. Maybe do the trim in SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP or something like that. Nice and soothing.
