"My Dear Brigadier, Of COURSE I Have A Better Plan"

I suppose there's a lot to talk about, seeing as this is my first new Who recap...or perhaps not, we'll see how it goes.

Highlights:
Axe > Sonic screwdriver
Grandpa
The Doctor noticing a couple of stray particles in Martha's hair. Too bad she wasn't conscious for that.
The random red bow in the girl's hair.

My theory is that this season is all about the past. Look at how many references there are! To the Brig (stuck in PERU?!?), to past companions (Martha, Rose), "Are you my mummy?", Rome, the Sontarans vs. Rutans (who I haven't met yet). It's either going to come back to bite him, or it's just a major theme of the whole season. I think it also ties in nicely with the Master arc from last season. I like how they're sort of going from arc to arc to arc, but they're all tied together in little ways.

The best thing about the ending was how the different companions responded to the Doctor's return. Martha, the carer, runs immediately to his aid, hugging him. While Donna has to slap him around a bit for giving her the scare before smiling. I loved it for the humor, but it also says a lot about each person. Also, and don't scream at me for this, but I really can see Donna being a sort of tough love mother-figure. It's almost as if she's trying to discipline him, since he's been like a little boy running all over the place on his own for so long. And of course I'm not saying that she's totally minding him or acting like his mother, they're friends first, but I can see a little bit of it there. Am I making sense?

I liked Ross! No, Ross, no! When they showed him in the previews, I thought maybe he was going to be one of the companions, and then, and then....Was that on purpose, or am I just dim?

I sort of wanted the Doctor to mention Zoe at one point around Rattigan. How could Luke not remind him of her?!? If we're going with the past thing, she or Jamie is bound to come up eventually.

Rose! I loved how they did that, as if she's trying to *pierce through the veil*. I really wonder how she's going to tie in though.

The whole romance at the office thing was kinda random. Like, there was no tension between them AT ALL and then we get this one scene and move on. What was that for? Unless they come back later in the season (which they probably will), I don't really see the point of it.

In conclusion: The Doctor set the world on fire, Martha looks cute in an overcoat, and Donna Noble is going to save the world...again.

Get ready for the capslock:
GAH I HATE THAT I HAVE TO WATCH THIS IN REAL TIME NOW.

AND OMG, THE TRAILER. WTF? WTF WTF WTF?!?! OKAY, THIS IS REALLY, JUST. NO. NO. NO SHOW SHOULD EVER DO THIS. EVER. IT IS WRONG. WRONG WRONG WRONG. UNLESS SHE'S A REINCARNATED VERSION OF SUSAN'S MOTHER THEN I DON'T CARE. DON'T GIVE ME MUMBO JUMBO ABOUT THE HAND THAT GOT CUT OFF (I SAW THE SNEAK SHOT THERE) I DON'T CARE. I. DON'T. CARE. THEY RUINED GILMORE GIRLS WITH THIS, THEY'RE NOT GOING TO RUIN DOCTOR WHO. FUCKIN' DOCTOR WHO!

*breathes* Okay. Over. Good night.

martha, tennant, rant, dw, donna
