Dear baristas,
This is the second time in three weeks I've been scheduled for <6 hours.
If my manager wants to fire me, she should go ahead and do it. If not, an apology and a check for this and last month's rent would be nice.
I get that this stuff happens, but she's never once been critical of my work performance, never once insinuated not liking me, and never once hinted at a reason for hour cuts in the midst of hiring four(!) new people in the last month.
Or, this may very well be an oversight; a shitty scheduling job amongst shitty scheduling jobs by a shitty scheduler. Because, really, are any managers good at scheduling?
Two weeks ago, when I asked her why I had 6 hours, down from my usually 15-20, she cited me mentioning to another barista if she could possibly cover a shift for me in a few days. The possibility--I didn't ask her to take it, I didn't end up needing it taken, I was just wondering if it were possible if I needed it covered. This got back to her, and she said, and I quote; "When I heard this, the only logical conclusion I could come to was that you didn't need hours."
I'm even okay with hour cuts. I get that it's necessary. I love all of my coworkers, and don't want any of them fired. But, when I was hired, I was promised close to 40 hours a week. Every month since, my average has dropped several hours, and now, I won't even quality for part time benefits. I'm so okay with hour cuts, I've never said anything about being scheduled for 35, 30, 25, 22, 20, and then 18 hours a week on average over the last several months.
But, I can't get cut anymore.
tl;dr: *pout*
So, baristas, how are your scheduling woes?
Regards,
Annoyed and dejected barista.
