Pa Kent versus the Atomic Skull, and Jimmy Olsen versus King Shark!

This is partly for glitterandlube and partly something I've been meaning to post for a while. DC ran a storyline through the Superman titles involving a guy named Manchester Black, who knew Clark Kent was Superman. This is from the second part, in Adventures of Superman #608. Black is targetting the people closest to Clark, including his parents.

Pa Kent versus the Atomic Skull!

Ouch. Superboy got his butt kicked by the Atomic Skull without the Kents even hearing it. (Seriously, how do you not notice a supervillain attack?) And they didn't even show it!

Pwned! No one can withstand the awesomeness that is Ma and Pa Kent! And that's not even with a shovel; several comics have shown, if Pa Kent comes at you with a shovel, you're completely fucked.

And they just... leave Superboy there. Okay, so maybe Superman needed to save his high school coach from Riot, but still.

Black has hired a bunch of C- and D-list villains go after other people connected to Clark Kent. These include:

Riot vs. Walt Andrews, Smallville High coach!
Quakemaster vs. Dr. Harold Carver, dentist!
Hellgrammite vs. Prof. Clowes, college journalism professor!
Firefist vs. Miss Dolenz, librarian!
Ratcatch vs. Dr. Davis, physician!
Bug-Eyed Bandit vs. Clark's (unnamed) accountant!
Hi-Tech vs. Dr. Kimmel, optometrist!

But I'm not posting any of those. What I am posting is the other really important fight, both because it's one of Superboy's old villains and the sheer ridiculousness of it.

Jimmy Olsen versus King Shark!

It's Planet Krypton! Man, I wish there was an actual chain of Planet Krypton restaraunts. I'd go there all the time. I wonder how much it would cost to build one? You'd need to get licensing from DC and have all that memmorabilia made, beyond the normal restaraunt start-up costs.

As someone who's read all of Superboy's series, I'd normally be peeved at how King Shark is portrayed here. The King Shark in Superboy was far larger, barely talked, and had to constantly eat and stay near the ocean.

But King Shark is trying to kill Jimmy Olsen wearing a Black Canary costume, including fishnets. That's far too amusing to get mad over.

Once again, I am far too amused at a shark-man wearing fishnets.

Oh, the talking heads are some TV interview about metahumans that was running through the issue. That's Amanda Waller there.

Also, a request: The original Black Zero

Can anyone post the story of the original Black Zero, "The Man Who Destroyed Krypton," from Superman #205? Here's the cover.

I'm curious what the "far worse punishment than death" would be. Having to do Jimmy Olsen's laundry, perhaps?
