LOL, Samson is the unholy trinity of failure~ (And so Kill Bill--this can't go wrong at all!!!)
"His dad can still be a dick without being a killer. But I don't have much faith in them going the subtle route with it. :/ "
Exactly. I expected it, but I really am starting to think 'How could Gabriel not have lost his mind?' With all the other backstory--of Virginia, being so alone and isolated, the abandoned father version 2, and Chandra's impersonal rejection of him...it's really the most tragic thing ever. And then the whole hunger and Petrelli 'you are my son!but not really' on top of it. The flashback did upset me because it was extremely sad.
At the same time, it could like suck out the choice aspect that made Sylar fascinating too, if they aren't careful. I mean, after all that, man...that's why I'm glad he didn't kill Luke. I'm fine with all this tragedy as long as it doesn't overshadow the character itself, and the character still makes choices. He's always been kind of a blamer 'you did this to me!' and I don't want that to be so literally true and take away the charm. I don't think it has yet. So I'm hoping for just the weird father myself who might be an addict to gambling or drugs.Maybe? lol.
AND it would totally funny if the whole vision-flashback was really a manifestation of his guilt or something. He'd be like 'I saw you cut my mommy's forehead open!!!' and Samson's like 'WTF? I did? In what universe?' But yeah, something not as accurate, hopefully. :/ There has to be more to it than that. (LOL, he did it all so his son can come and kill him--if he's still feeling sore about it all. XD)
Ahahaha, I didn't even think of that comparison. I SEE NO WAY THIS COULD POSSIBLY END BADLY FOR ANYONE INVOLVED.

EXACTLY. That's why I hated THE HUNGER and the retcon crap last season. Sylar likes to blame everyone ELSE for his issues, and everything BUT his own choices. If biodad's a murderer too, then they're failing exactly where volume 3 failed by VALIDATING that. Besides, there's been enough jerkass EVILDADS on this show already. I'd be happy with Mr. Gray being a selfish dick with ISSUES of his own, but he doesn't need to be a murderer on top of everything else.

I'm not holding my breath for the storyline to choose subtle over OMG BIODAD'S A KILLER TOOOOOO. But I'm really, really hoping. I think it would be cool if Samson WAS innocent of the mommy-murder, and Sylar was just taking a few vague, inaccurate memories and projecting HIMSELF and his own actions over flashback!dad. Sure helps him justify seeing daddy as a heartless monster.
