COOKIES

I've ended up falling asleep as soon as I got home almost every day this week. I can not possibly be sleep deprived enough to need to sleep all evening AND all night, multiple days in a row. WTF, BODY.

There's been a cat sitting on the ledge outside my apartment door two mornings this week. Kind of grey-and-white-and-brown, semi long-haired, and I haven't seen it around before among the legion of identical black cats and occasional grey ones that roam the streets. Not sure if it's a stray or just a previously stealthy neighbourhood cat that's just decided to get comfy napping above my pots of apple mint and rosemay at 8:00 in the morning. If it ends up hanging around, I should put out a little bit of food and get close enough to see if it has a collar or tattoo. I decided not to get a cat in Japan because it would be too much hassle and my life here is too short-term. But if one happened to end up on my doorstep, the least I can do is make sure it's okay.

I helped out in a home ec class today. There was cookie-making. I haven't had good, fresh, home-made cookies since I came here. So even with bizarrely substituted ingredients (I had to use breakfast oatmeal mix instead of rolled oats) and resorting to toaster ovens, THEY ARE COOKIES DAMN IT.

Things have mostly calmed down since the earthquake Saturday. There were a lot of itty-bitty aftershocks for a while, but up here they were just tiny trembles that you probably wouldn't feel unless you were sitting still. The only sizable one was on Monday evening, and that only lasted for about ten seconds and was just enough to make my windows rattle a bit. Hope Mother Earth is done being pissed for now.
