Tokyo!

Jan 04, 2008 03:59

Part one of my Tokyo adventure. With tons of pictures! I should have posted this sooner, but between being sick twice in the last two weeks, getting distracted with Christmas and New Years, and the sheer bloody LENGTH of this thing, it didn't happen until now.

DAY 1: Travel is not fun when you're sick )

wtf, japan, comics, heroes, lol, final fantasy, silent hill

There'll be more! I got some nice pictures at one of the shrines that came out pretty.

Fun pictures. I liked the Engrish sign as well as all the Square-Enix stuff. I would have loved to get that tonberry plush!

About the credit card, are you saying that you can't even use Visa/Mastercard credit cards there? I thought the point of those was to be able to be used across the world.

Yep. Technically you CAN use credit cards in Japan...it's just that hardly any stores actually TAKE credit cards except for big stores or ones that get a lot of foreign customers. And the bank machines do take Visa and Mastercard...but only if it's a JAPANESE card. Which defeats the whole purpose of credit cards, IMO. But what do I know, I'm just a DANGEROUS AND UNTRUSTWORTHY FOREIGNER. :/

Yeah, that does defeat the purpose. I'll have to make a note of it when I visit Japan next and make sure I have quite a few travellers' cheques.

On a completely unrelated note, how did you edit your previous comment? It's a feature I've been waiting for a long time in LJ though I don't see a button for it next to my comment anywhere (unless they just put it in when you made yours that is).

I think you need to have a paid account to get it.

PS: I *love* your icon.

Sephiroth, slimes, moogle, Rorilakkuma, crepes and pretty christmas trees. You've managed to squeeze all of my favourite things in one single post. Kudo.

You saw most of them already in the pics I sent you. This is just putting them all in one place. :O

Coool!

I liked the piercing eyes and the backpack. And the crepes looked really impressive... I'm hungry now...

Glad the flu didn't ruin the trip for you!

The flu made the first day miserable, but the 14 hour nap thankfully got rid of it.

That "piercing eyes" sign was FULL of engrishy things like that. And my GOD were there a lot of crepes in Harajuku. At least one store had some benches outside, and a sign that said something to the effect of "THESE BENCHES ARE ONLY FOR CUSTOMERS WHO PURCHASED CREPES".

One of the things I love about your post like this is that there is always so much I plan to comment on and by the time I get finished my mind is so blown I forget almost everything I wanted to say.

One of the best things I heard about Japan is that the workers do tend to be very helpful when you need it for the most part. That's a cool pedobear shirt slashing Ronalds face, never saw that before.

Can't help but look at the bear plus you got and think he's going to accost some of your other stuffed plushes.

Don't feel too bad about any pictures you took either, I remember getting a picture taken in front of a bear, my cousins told me to put his arms around me and I thought sure why not. It was only after I got the pictures developed did I realize what it looked like...so yeah....never trust cousins....or bears....once seen you can not unsee it.

I wanted to get as many details from Tokyo down as I could. I'm terrible at remembering things, so I want to be able to go back to this years down the road and have a good account of what happened. And sharing cool pictures isn't a bad motivation either, heh.

People in Japan can be VERY helpful. Almost makes up for everything else about the country being against you if you're a foreigner.
