On almost a daily level I find myself in awe that some people were ever able to achieve getting a driver's license. Normally my rants are restricted to the usual "two slow folks driving the same speed in either lane" troubles, but today was different. Today involved lights and sirens.
A few miles from work I noticed an emergency vehicle coming up behind me (it was one of the Fire & Rescue trucks), so I dutifully moved over into the outside lane well before they got to me. Once the truck passed me, I switched over to the inside lane and went back to my usual cruising speed. Luckily, this was about the same speed the Fire & Rescue truck was travelling, so I had a nice traffic breaker ;) Before we had even gone half a mile, the emergency vehicle begins encountering moron after moron that refuses to get over. It was simply amazing. Lights and sirens going off, honking their loud-assed horn... I thought they were about to nudge a couple of vehicles into getting the hell out of the way.
Now I could understand it if there were someone in the lane next to them and they couldn't get over, but never was this the case. These were just oblivious idiots that had plenty of time and space to get out of the way. People, this is why there are rearview and side mirrors. Stop talking to you buddy, get off the damned cell phone, do your makeup in the parking lot, whatever... just stop being such idiots and pay attention to what the hell is going on around you.
