I know I am not in the majority on this, but I love Martha Jones. She was a highly intelligent, educated woman who still showed such beautiful vulnerability. She loved the Tenth Doctor, and he never could return her romantic feelings. Also, most companions either die or are forced to leave the Doctor. Sarah Jane Smith was left because she couldn't go to Gallifrey, Adric died, Donna lost her memory so she wouldn't die, Rose got trapped in a parallel universe, and Jack was left on Satellite Five. Martha chose to leave because she couldn't keep traveling and falling further in love with a man who couldn't love her back. She left a stronger person.
