Everything Changes: I liked Gwen as PC Cooper, and her partner Andy was cool too. Rhys seemed like a nice guy. The outsider's view was enticing and a great way to debut the weevil and the team. Suzie and her glove was weird, and Ianto was barely around (I couldn't figure out why everyone talked about him so much), and Jack is immortal now, but I liked the first episode of Torchwood more than I did New Who.
Day One: Gwen officially had the worst first day ever. Owen is a voyeur. The team revealed they know little of Jack, not even his sexuality or if he really is American. Luckily Jack and Owen saved Carys. Again, not much Ianto. I still wondered about him.
Ghost Machine: I really loved how this episode opened up the character of Owen. Outwardly hard, we see that he can deeply care about people he's never met. The chase after Benny through the garden was amusing too. "Mummy, there's a man in our garden!" Ianto's "sploe" comment was amusing.
Cyberwoman: Wow. I didn't see that coming. Ianto had me completely fooled as well. Great plot to illustrate why he is elusive and quiet. Great acting on Gareth's part (I thought Ianto might actually shot Jack). I felt bad for poor Lisa and very bad for poor Annie the pizza girl. This intrigued me to discover how Jack and Ianto became a couple (yes, I already knew this).
Small Worlds: Ianto fades back into obscurity, but more of Jack's past between Who and Torchwood was revealed. Estelle was a great element. The actress playing Jasmine was perfect. I will never look at fairies the same way again.
Countryside: The team gets out of the hub! Ianto goes on a field mission! Ianto can find the SUV and headbutt. Tosh can run with handcuffs. It takes more than a shotgun to stop Gwen. Owen is an amazing Doctor. Jack can drive a tractor (at least through a wall). Not all threats are alien. This was a horrifying episode. The look on Tosh's and Ianto's faces upon looking in the fridge says it all. Great.
Greeks Bearing Gifts: Poor Tosh. She loves Owen, then telepathically has to hear about Owen and Gwen's affair. She falls in love with a woman/alien just trying to use her. Heart-breaking. Jack's mind can't be read, and Ianto was fairly resistant. What does that mean?
They Keep Killing Suzie: The stopwatch moment. Bad pickup line, but worth it. Gwen almost dying by Suzie. Darkness and nothingness after death. Retcon can make people crazy. Ianto breaking through the lockdown, and Swanson's snarkiness at having to help Torchwood. Priceless.
Random Shoes: Urg. Reminds me of Love and Monsters. Eugene seemed nice, but it would have helped if we had seen him in passing in a previous episode. Can no one think of any other surname but Jones in the Whoverse? I mean Harriet Jones, Ianto Jones, Martha Jones, Eugene Jones...And we've only had Mickey Smith and Mr. Smith. What's wrong with Williamson or Davis? Weird ending that I didn't really understand.
Out of Time: I loved this idea. The Diane/Owen relationship was a great touch, and so was the John/Jack friendship. I loved how hopeful Emma's life looked. And "Bananas are so more interesting" was great. My heart broke for Owen in this episode, and I felt horrible when I saw John watching his son's mind deteriorate from Altzeimer's.
Combat: Written by Noel Clark (Mickey Smith) so awesome on that scope. We saw just how damaged Owen is from Diane. Why can he growl like a weevil? I felt so bad for Janet the weevil.
Captain Jack Harkness: I both love and hate this episode. Kudos to Tosh for being so die-hard (writing in blood), and Ianto for shooting Owen to try to prevent him from opening the rift. It was a great clue to Jack's past to learn that he stole his name from the real Harkness. The kiss was lovely in the fact that he gave the dying man a great moment, but what happened to him after our Jack left? 1941 wasn't known for liberal values. I'm also a big Janto shipper, so it felt like cheating. I don't know.
End of Days: Now the whole team knows Jack is immortal. Ianto's Lisa didn't say he could come back. Owen and Tosh acted out of love, as did Gwen (for Rhys). The Jack/Ianto kiss at the end was darling, as was the Jack/Owen hug. Then he left to go after the Doctor. Grr!
