"Angie kinda showed us what it would have been like if the Sarah Jane Adventures had kept Kesley Hooper around." In that they were both terrible actors? Because wow these kids were annoying. It was such a relief when they were taken out of action.
My ongoing problem with this series is that the resolutions feel too easy to me. I know that objectively they're not - this show has always had ridiculous deus ex machinas coming out of its earholes - but for some reason pretty much every single denouement has felt unearned this year. (Last week's was the only exception for me.)
I thought the first ten minutes or so were pretty terrible; I had a weird moment when I remembered that this was a Neil Gaiman episode, and wondered what on earth was going on. It picked up a lot in the middle, I thought, with the Cyberplanner and the Doctor; this was probably my favourite Matt Smith episode yet, and it made me think he might have made a better Master than he's been a Doctor. Still, this was no The Doctor's Wife.
Enh. To be honest, I'm just about ready for the next Doctor Who reinvention; that way Moffat can go and focus on Sherlock and other stuff, and while I don't hate Smith as many (including most of my family) do, I've never really warmed to him that much either. And I think, in the end, I feel that Moffat's better as a writer of one-offs than as series runner, much like RTD (whose two one-offs, Gridlock and Midnight, were by far his best episodes).
