Excellent review as usual.
I agree that all of the emotional moments on this episode were fantastic. All of the players brought their A game and it was beautiful to see. Especially Dean and Benny ànd that massive hug Dean gives Sam at the end. Just beautiful.

But...
I still hate this writing team. They get no props from me although this isn't the worse episode they've done. Its as if they just write the show in a vacuum. Have they ever watched an episode of the show?

As far as complaints about Sam not looking for Dean I long ago made my peace with this. In fact I'm fine with it and it was thanks to you for logically spelling it out not once but twice.

I understand that the writers were trying something different, which is what the fans are always going on about. If the writers had done the same old thing they always do when Sam loses Dean they'd whine about that. They try something different and the whining gets louder and more insistent. There's no pleasing them no matter what they choose for the characters to do so they can only just do the story as they please. I cant help wondering if the reason they are crying about this one thing soooo much is because its just not what THEY want the characters to do instead of it being a bad story.
