[B]ut whenever he was hopped up on demon blood, his inhibitions were crushed and the dissenting voice of his conscience became nothing more than a chirping cricket. Every time we saw him experiencing the power rush high of demon blood, he was obviously feeling no emotional or spiritual pain on account of what he was doing at the time he was doing it. That was, in a way, a foretaste of his experience being soulless, freed from pain, fear, and the confusion of conflicting emotions, able simply to pursue his goal of the moment with no thought for consequences.

Huh. I found this particular comparison fascinating. It wasn't something that had even occurred to me but it makes a lot of sense, both from a writing standpoint and for Bobby to (likely unconsciously) have those memories gnawing at the back of his mind. Something like that probably occurred to Sam in that brief moment after he realizes he'd been walking around without a soul--with the look on his face, I was sure all kinds of possibilities of what he could have done ran through his mind, with his demon blood-aided actions likely giving life to some of those concerns of what he'd be capable of. Interesting.

Sam, though, is in his "Swan Song" state of mind, when he and Dean had made peace with each other and Sam had finally made peace with himself through so much work through season 5. I'm hopeful that those memories still being so fresh for him will fuel him trying to make amends for what his soulless self did.

I'm also in complete agreement with you that Death's speech to Dean about the strength of souls would be directly related to Sam's soul and how he recovers whenever the wall inevitably comes down. Cas, in "Two Minutes to Midnight," mentioned that the Winchesters had continually exceeded all expectations, and I feel like this is going to be another instance when a Winchester's strength of will is going to shock and amaze (or what have you); plus, being around Dean is undoubtedly healing for Sam's soul, what with the whole soul mates deal and all.

Re: The multitude of virgins, at this point I'm running under the assumption that Mother's going to be hopping meatsuits, so the dragons collected a bunch for whenever she wore out one and needed to shift forms. We'll see how that eventually pans out, though.

Something on the production side I was surprised not to see mentioned was the Impala scene! The camera angles made us feel like we were sitting in the backseat with the boys. And there was just something about the lighting in that scene that gave it a different feel. It definitely stood out for me; I really, really liked it.

Final note: "You know, it's comforting. I died for a year, came back, and you're still not funny." "Shaddup! I'm hilarious." Oh how I missed the boys!

THANK YOU for mentioning that! The only bad thing about doing these commentaries is that I ALWAYS manage to forget a few things I had meant to mention, and the cinematography, lighting, and direction of the scene in the car was one of them. I LOVED everything about this scene, and kick myself for forgetting to address it!

Thanks for everything!
