Just random thoughts and relevantly significant events:
I have decided that I want to transfer from Bard College. I went to a high school of c. 350 students which made me very eager to extend that small-and mostly positive-experience to college. The only "drum" being beaten by the College Counselors seemed to say: "Small liberal-arts College." Now, in my second year of undergraduate education I am realizing that there is more to academia than the liberal-arts. While integration of multiple fields is important to a course of study so is specific study at times. Moral of the story, all things in moderation. There is a much larger world out there and I want to experience it in hopes that I will emerge a more balanced person. However crazy Bard is making me, it is the right place to be to get where I want to go. The more and more I think about it, the more I enjoy Architectural History and Design. Currently my list of schools to apply to is firmly at one, Cornell University. Suggestions and thoughts are greatly appreciated.
Last weekend I spent two days in the city with Kate. We mostly bummed around and did a little shopping. Also we went to MoMA. NOTE: Fridays after 5pm Target sponsors free admission until the galleries close. I was blown away by their collection of which we were only to see about half. Their collection of Impressionists is literally mind blowing for the size of the museum. Also their Architecture and Design section was delightful and fascinating. :) Also Hookah bars are great places to go with friends. If anyone is interested I would love to have them come down and take them to one.
Also I think I would like to transfer to a greater distance from New York City. It is a fascinating and great place but it is possibly one of the most foreign concepts I have yet encountered. The way of life in the city is so contrary to how I look at the world and I would never want to live there. Also the things it does to its inhabitants...strange.
Is it bad that I am fascinated with the nightly riots in France? It seems like it wouldn't be that hard to contain or subdue. But also I have never seen something quite like this in my lifetime. Also it seems to smack of a culture/class/civil war. Interesting interesting stuff, I'm incredibly interested to see it develop.
In other news, my friends and I have started having what we are calling "Cultural Jam-Sessions." On Thursday night we went to the vacant wood studio and used scrap wood to create sculptures. It’s interesting to watch people's minds work manifested in their artwork. Kate tends towards the use of collage to create a piece while I tend towards planning and manipulation of materials to create a desired effect. Also last night we hung out and wrote a 4 page dialog between two characters. It's absolutely a riot to have these sessions and a good way to spend time with friends.
