The award for Idiot of the Year '05 goes to...

Today I did one of the most stupid things I have done in a long time. Today was my scheduled day in court to respond to my speeding ticket I recieved earlier this month. I warned my professor for Roman Art and Architecture that I was going to be absent from class because I had to be in court at 5 pm. Painstakingly I prepared what I was going to say to the officer and judge. I ran home from Sculpture to get ready so I could be early to my appointed time. My friend Jenn was nice enough to go with me. After picking her up we drove to Rhinebeck and found the Town Hall.

To my bewilderment, the doors were locked. One of the front doors was somewhat ajar, suggesting to me that I ought to go inside. I went in and sat in the hallway of the completely deserted building. I watched 5 pm come and go. Twenty-five minutes later, I went to the firestation next door to ask if they knew what the deal was. The nice firemen said that they always come and when they do show up, its packed. Figuring that there was some sort of system behind requesting me to show up at 5, maybe a half an hour before things were set to start? So I waited and I waited, 5:45 came and went. Getting increasingly confused I asked Jenn to go to some of the nearby stores to get the number to the Police Station so that I could ask them what was up. A couple of minutes after she left I read over the ticket at least ten times. I was in the right place, I was there at the right time, it was set for 10/20/05.

Then it hit me like a ton of bricks, September is the 9th month and we are still in September.

I was one month early to my court-date!

Despite feeling incredibly dumb, Jenn and I did some needed grocery shopping and had a great dinner at Village Pizza in Red Hook. Nice to know that the outing wasn't a total waste. The only down side is that I have to get notes for my missed class from someone.
