Ahhh the Life of a Latch-Key Kid...

Aug 13, 2005 13:02

Since Katie left the other night I have turned into a full fledged "latch-key kid." Annie’s former special-ed teacher has come to stay with us until the parents come home late tomorrow night. Needless to say that I feel much less obligated/interested in hanging out with the both of them. This leaves me with absolutely no responsibility to anyone or anything for at least another 34 hours. Strangely liberating while mildly terrifying at the same time.

Yesterday I rolled out of bed at two after waking up early to see Katie off and see "the changing of the guard" with the arrival of Lisa at 8 am. I headed over to Cafe Normandy for a bit of late-afternoon breakfast. Quiche Lorraine and French Onion Soup goodness ensued. After that I called Melby and wellsofsilence to see if they wanted to go see The Wedding Crashers later that night. This left me with several hours of free time.

The Kings English, my favorite independent bookshop in Salt Lake, is always capable of giving me a good warm and fuzzy feeling inside for just being there. So I went over and picked up a book called A Year in the Merde. It's the account of a Brit who is transplanted to Paris to start a chain of tea rooms. I sat in the shop for an hour reading the first few chapters and had the realization that I am rather skeptical about buying a book out of the blue. I really prefer to sit down and read the first chapter to see if I could finish the book. I am really going to miss free-reading over the school year. However, thinking back, I can remember many times when I was sitting at my computer, bored out of my mind with nothing to do. Perhaps I will take a book or two back with me and perhaps try some free-reading at such idle times.

Then I went to the Coffee Garden and read for several hours until I had to go to the movie. The Wedding Crashers, I must admit, was surprisingly funny. Quite an original concept. My only complaint was that it drags in places. Other than that its a great movie to sit in front of and laugh.

Also if anyone wants to keep me company for some portion of the next 34 hours, please gimme a call. I would love to talk/hang out!
