Asatru Code

The Asatru Code was developed as a way for Heathens to encode relevent information about themselves.  I first became aware of this code a few years back but never took the time to write out the code as it could be applied to describe myself and my practice of Heathenry.  Well, this morning I did do.

I thought it would be a quick and simple thing to ( Read more... )

"it's fun and good self-examination."

Yeah, I did enjoy doing this and it really did make me think about some things I might not ordinarily think about.

Urglaawe, I would say, is still very much a developing tradition. Its ritual seems to me very much influenced by American style Asatru, though I sense this may change with time as the developers of the tradition flesh things out a bit more, and become more comfortable "in their own skin." Urglaawe definitely incorporates much more folk magic than I think would be generally found in American style Asatru (at least in American style Asatru as I've experienced it).

My interest in Urglaawe stems from my ancestry being a mix of English and Pennsylvania German (pretty much a 50/50 mix on both paternal and maternal sides, with the occasional Scot, Irish or Welshie thrown into the mix!). My English ancestry most definitely speaks to me most clearly, and "Anglo-Saxon Heathen" is most definitely how I self-identify. Urglaawe, for me, is somewhat a secondary interest, but I very much support the traditon and hope to see it grow and become more acknowledged in the Heathen community. I'm also very attracted to "Deitsch", the Pennsylvania German dialect of the German language.

Here a links to a couple of Urglaawe-related Yahoo! Groups:
hexenkunst - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hexenkunst/?yguid=298468045
urglaawe - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/urglaawe/?yguid=298468045

The hexenkunst group tends to be more focused on the folk traditions, wheras the urglaawe group tends to focus more on the tradition itself, its rites, ritual, usw. (Note - the urglaawe group started out as a Deitsch language only group, so if you join and start reading archived messages, don't be alarmed that the first few messages are in Deitsch only!).

You're welcome. Both of those groups seem a little "sleepy" right now. But, you know how it goes with Yahoo! Groups.
