It is 5 am. I have 15 pages of a first-or-second (depends on the paragraph) draft of my Foucault paper done. Since the paper needs two more pages, I will add a page-and-a-half of material and a half-page conclusion.
I have been working on this paper for almost a week now, and while I am relieved that it no longer reads (for the most part) like an 8th grader's book report on the role of sadomasochism in Foucault's work, I really wish I had an extra day or two to polish my prose. As it stands, it isn't the worst graduate paper I've turned in (last quarter's paper on Christa Wolf's Cassandra holds that enviable title), but IT COULD SERIOUSLY BE SO MUCH BETTER -- SERIOUSLY -- if I just had a few extra hours (or if I hadn't spent most of last week reading Achewood and watching reruns of King of the Hill for hours at a time).
UPDATE: I am done with my first year of grad school. One down... seven to go!
