I think Thursday was just fates way of giving me a break before this weekend so I didn't kill anyone! Although I have to admit I still can very, very close.
Friday I realized I might be in trouble, when all of the Peewee Hockey people started to check in. I was the only one working, and I was swamped. 2 teams were staying at the hotel for 2 nights, along with their families. You would think the parents would have some control of the kids, but you would be wrong. I don't think any of them knew how to talk below yelling decibels, and they always seemed to be trying to beat each other up - with no parents in sight. So between keeping them, somewhat settled down, answering the phones, checking people in, along with the rest of my weird duties, I think I ran most of the night. Which made the night go by really quick.
But while Friday was just a headache, Saturday was closer to hell. 20 minutes after the last housekeeper left I got a phone call about a plugged toilet and 10 minutes after that a couple came down and informed me that their room wasn't made up. After an hour, I was finally able to get away from the desk, where I find out that the toilet is not only plugged, it is overflowed! So I get the 'pleasure' of cleaning up that mess, keeping in mind I do not get paid enough for this. Luckily the couple that didn't get their room cleaned only wanted more towels and coffee.
I find out that the kids in the hotel don't have any early games the next day, so the ones that were just rowdy, had taken it up a few notches. I honestly don't remember how many times I had to talk to them, and even threaten to put them under "house arrest" (either they stay in their rooms or get kicked out).
That was about the time that one of the head coaches, came down to talk to me. Supposedly, his reasons were to let me know that if any more of his kids act up that I was supposed to call him and he would take care of it. But at the end of the conversation, he just had to throw in there "but you can call up too, if you just want to talk. After 11:15pm." (somewhere in the conversation he had asked me when I got off, like when I got to finally leave this chaos.) I almost threw the stapler at his head. I'm not dressed provocatively. I don't wear any makeup. And I don't flirt with the customers, but the next one that hits on me is in serious danger of getting a black eye!! They are the reasons why I don't feel SAFE when working alone!
Now to the big finale of the night. There were some kids playing football in the pool. I had already talked to them twice ... to tell them to watch out for the little ones and not to dunk anyone. When I got an irate phone call from a lady, saying that she had been coming here for years and this was the WORST stay she had ever had! She had just had her neck fused and that a football came flying at her table and that the lady next to her got hit in the face with it! And she wanted to talk to the head of the chain of hotels I work for! So I went down there, and had the rest of the balls taken out of the pool, and one of teh kids asked if he was going to get his ball back. So I went over to the table of the lady that called, where I was promptly screamed at! (It sounded like she thought it was MY fault and that she wanted me fired!) And she wasn't going to give the ball back - ever! So I went back up to the desk, and called the general manager, told her what was going on and had her talk to the lady. she then called me back and told me to take $20 off there rooms for both nights. Which made there poolside rooms only $38.80 + tax. (I think they complained earlier so there rate was already reduced.) The normal rate for those rooms, is either $89 or $99 + tax. It almost makes getting hit in the face (which I was told later that the ball just bounced on the table) worth it. The only thing I'm glad about is that I didn't have to work this morning and help check those people out. Because I know they are going to scream because their rooms for both nights weren't comp (free).
Just before I left the head couch for the other team, came up and apologized for his teams part in the chaos and they even brought over a pizza. but at that point even food wasn't going to make me happy, so the night auditor got the whole thing. And I got to go home and to bed - although if there had been alcohol in the house, I think I would have gotten drunk!
