I'm putting away dishes and the Monster is playing with a sticker book in the living room. I hear mumble, and snippets of sentences like "I love books! These is my favourite books. Once upon a time, the end!" All cool, right?
Well, evidently, not.
"Mama! THERE'S A MONSTER IN THE CAVE!"
Gee, that doesn't sound like something from her sticker book.... so I come in, and she's grabbed a handful of my Junji Ito books. Gyo #2, I believe. And she's flipping through the last story, The Enigma of Amigara Fault. [By all means, Google this if you want the shit disturbed out of you].
"Oh Mama, there's a monster. It scared at me!" After plenty of distracting and reassuring, all seems forgotten. Right? Right? RIGHT?!?
Cue bedtime. As she's climbing in to bed she says "I'm scared."
"What are you scared of, honey?"
"The eyes. The eyes in the cave."
"....."
Also - after she's in her crib, she sits up and looks past me, in to the dark.
"What are you looking at, honey?"
"Oh, strange things. Strange things in the dark."
STOP DOING THAT, YOU'RE 2. THAT'S NOT RIGHT. Damn my inquisitive child and her ridiculous memory :( [We've had to start moving things to where she can't see them. Like my The Dead: Schoolgirl figure who had 'the broken face', since that started a lot of demands to 'fix the face'.]
