i've been insisting for years that i can't listen to audiobooks because i have terrible listening comprehension, etc etc, and i still think that's true. BUT i've recently discovered that i really love listening to audiobooks for books i know really well. i've been putting them on while i sleep lately instead of music or movies, and it's mostly been wonderful. (i say "mostly" because some people's words are just too much and i can't help but be pulled into their stories and get my heart broken. i was really enjoying the looking for alaska audiobook on my second listen (i have a lot of trouble adjusting to new voices) but last night i happened to be at one day before and i just couldn't do it.)
i really loved tigana, which as a bonus is fantastically long. AND i know it much better than i know most of the other books i've been listening to, so i was able to start it at the point where i fell asleep most nights, so i actually heard the whole story a couple of times. also, it turns out i've been mispronouncing EVERYTHING. hah.
i couldn't get into the golden compass though. the voices weren't working for me, and i think i just don't love the book enough for this sort of thing.
white cat was fantastic. that was the first one that really made it hard for me to fall asleep because the story was just so wonderful.
i started the book thief last night and oh god, it already hurts. the narration is fantastic and there is accordion music and people yelling in german and i love it a lot. i fell asleep to hans comforting liesel when she has nightmares and woke to liesel making max feel alive by describing the weather. that's all of the book i want to hear though, because the rest is unbearably sad. (just kidding! i am also going to reread it really soon. i think it's another book that i need to know inside and out.)
i'm running out of books though. (i'm trying to only do things that my library has for download, cos i'm lazy.) and i don't know if i should be counting these on goodreads or not. but if anyone has audiobook recs for things i've read, lay 'em on me!
(also i am definitely getting john green's audiobook for christmas, which is very exciting cos listening to him read it what started this whole trend for me.)
