two years ago tonight, g. locked the doors and put in batten the hatches, & everything changed. i know i talk about her a lot, and i know it is probably just white noise to people now, but goddamn i love this girl. i love that i have listened to her songs thousands of times, but i am still finding new things. i was listening to her in the car today, and i still had to stop everything else so i could pay "from here" the attention it deserves. that song just stops me in my tracks, every single time.
(i can't believe it's been two years. i can't believe how much my life has changed in two years! two years ago, moving to orlando was just this crazy thing i was planning about a city i had never even been to. i hadn't met ashley yet. i had no idea whether or not i could even survive on my own!)
and here's the thing- my jenniversary isn't just about my ridiculous obsession with jenny owen youngs. there is all this other amazing music that i wouldn't know if it wasn't for jenny! i found out about bess because her voice blew me away in that first "secrets" video i found. bess led me to ingrid and the age of rockets and robot explosion. ingrid led me to matt nathanson and meiko and greg laswell. matt led me to jessie baylin. jenny pointed the way to dan romer and gregory & the hawk and allison weiss and plenty of other bands that i just can't afford to love right now. this stupidly awesome group of artists resparked my love of music. hell, they helped respark my passion for living. it sounds so stupid and cheesy but i don't even care.
(!!!!!!!
NEW SONG!! i have not ripped it yet, but ngh i love it. i have now heard over half the new album \o/ still no word on a release date though, sigh. they were taking pictures for the album art yesterday though.)
(ok, just watched an interview where jenny comes out against bruce springsteen. i don't think it's possible for me to love her more!)
here is some free jenny music, for those of you still reading. that folder contains the following:
- avalanche, oh avalanche (live amsterdam): gregory & the hawk cover, has talking at the end.
- didn't know (live amsterdam): this is going to be on the new album!
- dissolve (live amsterdam): this is also going to be on the new album! when she plays this with a full band, there is some seriously gorgeous drum work. this is not one of those times though.
- from here: from her first album, cos it's my favorite.
- last person (live ct): the file has the wrong name. this is "last person" and it's on the new album and she sometimes plays this like she's in a country band.
- secrets (live wi): on the new album. also, the song that made me fall in love with bess rogers.
- thanks, mesopotamia!: this is a new song from some compilation some magazine did. it's based on an advice column. it's lovely.
- things we don't need anymore: her christmas song from 2007 ♥
- transmitter failure (live amsterdam): there is talking in this too, but it's the only edited version of this song i have right now. i love it a lot, & it'll be on the new album.
