So the season is over and everything has happened. Here's what happened:
1. I actually got to harvest some myoga! This was quite exciting. It was delicious. I am so pleased with how happy it seems to be in my garden. Now I just need to nurse it through the winter.
2. SO. MANY. ROMA. TOMATOES.
3. The lettuce did indeed come back, and the bunnies stayed away, and I ate plenty of it until it bolted in July. There's now a potential second crop going, but it's cold now, so I may be eating it all as microgreens and baby lettuce.
4. The corn grew, ripened, and then was devoured by bunnies. I got NOTHING. Very annoyed about that, and will be planting it next year in the boxes again to get it out of their reach. Stupid rabbits.
5. The parsley and carrot greens became home to black swallowtail butterfly caterpillars. I had two patches of parsley, so I would move all the caterpillars to one of them and harvested plenty off the other. All good. And I will have a variety of pollinators (butterflies and bees) next year. I will again make a special spot for the caterpillars.
6. PEPPERS. A MILLION PEPPERS. The long, sweet green kind that traditionally is roasted or grilled and put on hoagies. One bush had dozens and dozens, perhaps a hundred or more.
So now it's all done and I did a harvest of herbs yesterday before the frost we had last night. I have tons of Scarborough Fair herbs (parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme) hung to dry. Also catnip.
Goal over the next couple of months: clear out the back room and make a nice space for the grow-light so I can start seedlings in February. I ordered more Earthboxes at the end of the season when they were on clearance, so now I have six of them and assorted other boxes and pots for other things.
