Well, that was anticlimactic.

Pretty much spent the hurricane sitting in my house watching endless hours of TV, flipping over to the Weather Channel every commercial break. I slept on the sofa because there are large trees outside my bedroom, but that was about all I needed to do.

Was that the slowest hurricane ever? It didn't so much plow up the coast as dawdle. "La la, what a lovely day to see the eastern seaboard. My, aren't the Carolinas beautiful. I think I'll hang out here for a day....Okay, on to New Jersey, but first, let me get some crabcakes in Maryland..."

It's nice to learn that NYC can, in fact, survive a direct hit by a Cat-1 hurricane. My sister, in her 32nd-floor apartment, didn't feel a thing. My mother lost her cable and internet access, but still had phone and power. Best friend's apartment was shown to have a bad leak around one window that has probably been going for some while but was undetectable until this volume of water, so that might actually be for the best that they're going to fix it now.

I put off a trip home this weekend. Okay, I wouldn't have been able to go out for dinner on Saturday, but the planned Sunday brunch would have been no problem, as the storm was past by then. Well, "better safe than sorry" is a cliche for a reason, and that's the course we all followed this weekend.

oh the weather outside is frightful
