Dear Everyone, but most particularly public figures:
If you don't want photos of you to go public, don't take them.
I understand people have their kinks, and some significant portion of the population appears to think that they are or should be amateur porn stars and pinups. I do not understand this, but there are many things people do that don't interest me, so okay, people have different interests.
But how do people reach adulthood and not realize that nothing is ever secret?
How the hell stupidly trusting--and I mean STUPID in all caps--how the hell stupidly trusting are people? I have never trusted anyone--ANYONE--enough that I would consider even for a tiny split second allowing them to take an explicit photo of me. (Or to take one of myself and give it to them.) Things that don't exist cannot be deliberately--or accidentally!-- made public.
This goes double if you're a politician who could be hurt by such a photo coming to light.
I just don't get it. I don't, I don't, I don't. I don't understand that level of check-your-brain-at-the-door. Do people lack the imagination to visualize a worst-case scenario?
The older I get, the more I begin to suspect that significant portions of the population--even educated portions--lack the ability to think across time. They don't remember the past, they can't apply lessons learned, and they don't think about the "what if"s of how their actions may play out in the future. They're like dogs, or marmosets, or squirrels: everything is happening NOW, and there's no past or future.
Actually, squirrels store nuts for the winter, so I'm giving the squirrels too little credit.
in the news,
why are people so stupid?
