Yeah, not getting out of here today. The Turnpike is open, but they haven't plowed my mom's street yet. This is unusual. They usually get to it pretty early, since a councilman lives on this block and we're not far from the depot where the trucks are kept. Saw them go by last night around 11pm, but I guess they were working their way out to the end of their range and are perhaps now working their way back in.
The kid down the street did a little shoveling for us, but it was kind of a half-assed job. He won't accept any money. I just hope the guys who will accept money won't be put off by the sort-of job. Please come to the door! We'll pay you to do the job right!
I went out and shoveled the driveway some more (preparing my getaway!), and cleaned off the cars a bit. And the whole time I kept thinking, "My orthopedist would kill me if he saw me lifting this stuff." (Also: "Don't fat, middle-aged people have heart attacks while shoveling snow? Maybe you shouldn't have had bacon for breakfast.") So I took it easy and cleared the driveway and salted the path on the sidewalk, and tomorrow I hope the guys looking for money will come by and I'll pay them to finish the sidewalk and clear the end of the driveway so I can get out.
My mom asked me, "Don't you have any sunglasses?" To which I replied, "Yes, in the car." This would be the car currently under 2 feet of snow.
But the sky is that beautiful crispy blue you only get right after a blizzard, so I was glad to be able to see it without dimming lenses. Besides, I had to keep my eyes closed a lot of the time because of the wind. I forgot that my mom lives at the end of a wind tunnel (seriously. My mom's house is in the bottom leg of a Y. The prevailing winds are from the other end, and they come together at the junction in the Y and then rip down the street with double-force).
So another day of trying to keep myself entertained.
oh the weather outside is frightful
