Fear and Laughter in Philadelphia

Fear

Last night I was watching Castle when I heard the distinctive buzzing of a cicada right at the window. Random heard the buzzing as well, and immediately ran to the window. It was open, but has a screen. Still, I saw him pawing around on the jamb (he was behind the miniblinds), and I thought, Oh crap, it got inside. He must have busted the screen when he sits his fat butt up there.

I don't know how others feel about cicadas, but frankly, I would rather face a million giant spiders. Cicadas are... well, their giant, bumbling quality, and their fierce alienness... Ugh! I was horrified that Random would (a) kill the thing and leave its fat corpse for me to clean up, (b) kill it and leave its fat corpse in a pool of its blood and innards for me to clean up, or (c) eat it, and then vomit up some exciting stuff on my expensive oriental carpets for me to clean up at an inconvenient hour of the morning.

After a short while it ceased making noise. Random didn't move. I decided it must have been on the ledge outside the window, and was gone now, but he was waiting to see if it came back.

After the show was done, I cautiously approached, and slowly pulled up the miniblinds. I was terrified a cicada would bumble out and start flying around my living room (or, worse, collide with me).

Nothing. It must have been outside the screen. Whew.

Laughter

feklar just emailed me using a voice-recognition program. It translated my name as "Death" (at the beginning of a sentence, so properly capitalized). Hee! I'm Edward!
