Scientists insert the human version of FOXP2 into mice.

It's always interesting to see SFnal predictions working their way slowly towards reality. (Perhaps that should be phrased as "Reality working its way slowly towards the predictions of SF writers.") So much of the genre starts to look dated in 20 years, and outright silly in 30. We were overoptimistic in the realm of space exploration. Early writers greatly underestimated the advances of computer science (though that has now been course-corrected many times). But we're still doing pretty well in the realm of genetic modification. David Brin's books aren't obsolete yet.
