Kids these days...
I was on the train this weekend and as usual, spent some time eavesdropping on my fellow passengers. For about 30 minutes I was listening to a trio (two guys and a girl) of 20-somethings talk. I was generally impressed with them. Winning comment, from one of the boys: "Yeah, those club girls are nice to look at I guess, but it gets old real fast. I would never date one."
I was amused by something the girl (who said she was 23) said. She was talking about how little girls today dress like sluts.
And this made me laugh, because of course ten or fifteen years ago, I thought little girls then dressed like sluts. That would be about the age the girl on the train was.
So I thought about what I, and other little girls, wore when we were ten years old. This would be the late 1970s. I wore...short shorts, the little terry-cloth jogging shorts that barely covered the butt. And I wore tube tops. And when I went swimming, I wore a bikini. By the time I was twelve, the fashion was for tight jeans. All my little friends dressed like this.
It is entirely possible that older people were clucking their tongues at us, too.
