Here's phase one of Siffy's grand plan to dump their old audience and create a new one.
They're following the fine old tradition of "nab 'em when they're young, and raise 'em up to be loyal drones." Methinks this is just the latest demonstration that the PTBs at the Station Formerly Known As SciFi are stuck in the 1950s with regard to their knowledge of SFnal tropes.
Or more likely someone said, "Hey, George Lucas made bajillions of dollars by abandoning his adult market and dumbing down his stuff to kiddiefied pap, so we can too!"
Phase Two of this plan requires that they stop airing reality TV, though, since I suspect most parents would pull the plug on that. I can imagine them keeping the WWE--that appeals to the twelve-year-old boys--but I thought they were explicitly trying to get some of the "girl" market?
They probably have a plan, but what they're putting forth is more like three plans which all contradict each other. Maybe the PTBs and the marketing flacks aren't speaking to each other.
