Every August, I participate in Jan's August Writing Challenge here on LJ. The community for it is
august_writing. The challenge is simply to write something, every day, for a month, and share it. I've been participating every year since 2007, and I've always enjoyed it a lot.
My output for the August Writing Challenge usually consists of fanfic, poetry, original short stories, and sometimes other things, like character sketches for characters from my novels. I was all set to write more of the same this August, and was looking forward to it. Then
Camp NaNoWriMo came along. I've been an active and faithful NaNoWriMo participant since 2004, and I loved the idea of a summertime, camp-themed version. I definitely wanted to do it. Tonight, I settled on a story idea to use for the event.
This year, I'll be participating in both the August Writing Challenge and Camp NaNoWriMo, using the same new work of fiction to fulfill the requirements of both challenges. Throughout the month of August, my daily writing output will be posted both here and on
my writing-and-podcasting-focused blog over at WordPress. I'm very excited to be joining the ranks of authors who have gotten their work out to an audience via their blogs as it's being written.
I don't have a working title for the story I'll be writing yet, but I've had the idea for it since May of 2008. It will be a fantasy story involving a king who is also a mage, people being transformed into non-human things for extended periods of time, a seemingly unlikely friendship, moral gray areas, and inter-kingdom politics. If this sounds like your cup of tea, I hope you'll accompany me on the journey.
