My laptop's hard drive has dropped into Limbo.

Today I went to Starbucks and managed to spill a full cup of coffee all over my table, shirt, jeans, and the floor. Not much of it got on the table, but a very little bit got onto the bottom of my laptop. I didn't think it would be a problem after it was dried off. So I went home, changed, and then went back to the Starbucks. A particular website made my laptop freeze, and then when I tried to do a brute-force restart using the power button, it told me it couldn't detect the hard drive. This may or may not have to do with the coffee, I don't know.

I'm currently posting from the desktop computer at home. I'm going to hook up the hard drive from my laptop to the desktop computer (using a handy USB adapter we have) when my dad brings the adapter home from work. It remains to be seen whether my own hard drive will remember that we even had a revised resume in progress, or whether the whole thing will have turned into scrambled egg. I hope my laptop is having fun building sandcastle skyscrapers. ;-) :-D

Update Saturday 9/18: Since I posted this entry, I've backed up everything from that hard drive, then put the hard drive back into the laptop. They both worked perfectly. I don't get it. Because my dad offered to help me, and because right after backing up everything seemed like a good time to do it, we spent most of the day wiping and reformatting that hard drive and rebuilding the entire system from the ground up, making it dual-boot for the first time. I'll be able to use Windows 7 for the Cisco Academy curriculum program, iTunes, Finale, Adobe Premiere if I ever get back to it, and JumpStart 3rd Grade if I ever get back to that, and Ubuntu for everything else. I'm looking forward to getting my laptop back. (I'm still on the big desktop computer right now.)
