"One foot in front of the other--through leaves, over bridges,"
I've been all settled in at school for about 5 days now. Aeryn and my room is pretty damn comfortable. before long we worked to move in the new freshmen. there are 45 people on floor, meaning 11 returning members and 34 freshmen. they seem to be a pretty reasonable bunch, and are shaping up to be a lot of fun. last night we hosted 2 simultaneous 3-d twister games, consisting of a twister board on the floor and 2 on the walls. that little event was the brainchild of two of our little froshies. tonight they built elaborate cardboard and tape suits of armor to model and fight in. oh! and two of them freshmen have some kind of origins through rockaway, new jersey, itself! its crazy. blows my mind. and it looks like i have some good carpooling potential.
today i had a special interest house meeting. but even the free sandwiches couldn't keep me from wanting to bang my head against the table at moments. reslife is basically jumping at a notice of reduced interest in special interest houses like arthouse, and is instead promoting the preposterous option of "learning communities". don't even get me started on learning communities. point is, barry and i have our work cut out for us to keep the retention rates and interest in the house higher than ever.
today i found out i got a job at the student life center, a.k.a. the gym. i'll work at the reception desks and the cage for a number of hours per week. it seems pretty low-key. looking at my schedule, i'm gonna have 13 hours straight of classes on thursdays. naturally, the rest of my days are pretty short days. unfortunately, it doesn't look like i have much, if any room to negotiate that killer thursday anyway.
its been very good to see familiar faces up here. but that doesn't stop me from missing some faces.
