Renaissance Festival

I guess it's a sign of age when you find yourself leaving earlier each year. That, or I need to skip a year so it seems newer. I'm beginning to know the dialogue for the skits....

It was hot today, and dusty there. After 4 hours I'd seen 4 shows, bought 2 CDs and a hair thingy, walked all over the place, shot 4 arrows, and shared a turkey leg. It was time to go home. Even the kid (no longer a kidlet) wanted to go. She'd dressed as an elf this year, wearing a much cooler white cotton dress with embroidery and crocheting on it, than her Renn costume. She had the ears and managed to look ethereal, garnering some comments about how cute she looked and sufficient stares from passersby to satisfy her.

My feet hurt still.

I had gotten Painter X and a DVD on how to use it via www.academicsuperstore.com (wonderful place to get reduced priced programs if you have a student), only the DVD-rom seems to have been damaged and the instructor's voice is all echoey...like at a ballgame where you can't understand the announcer...(maybe that's why it was free) I even tried my DVD player and it won't even play it. So, if I listen really hard, I can figure out most of what he says.

I now have tablet envy...they show the latest Wacom tablets...there's even one that is the screen and tablet rolled into one (Cintiq 21UX)...I don't even want to know what it costs (oooo...I looked. It's a steal for $2499). I have a 5 year old tablet that's roughly 4x5 for workspace. It still does the job.

So I designed a logo for an art show for next year. I'm on a committee for designing the invitation/application forms for it and the jury committee. Anyway, the city's art committee (or whatever they call themselves, I keep forgetting) wanted each of us to bring in an idea. Not very original, but they picked a 'name' for the fine art show that doesn't allow for much creativity.

Oooo...just got another idea...hmmmm...
