My MacBook Pro came today.

I'm having a great degree of neophobia because it's all new and strange, so I've been downloading Mac versions of all of my existing software. OpenOffice for Mac turns out to be absolutely identical to OpenOffice for Windows and for the eeePC (whatever linux that is), so I'm delighted with that. Firefox too seems identical. Less happy with Opera, ( Read more... )

videos, mac, not geeky enough it seems

Verry impressive for an automatic subtitler. I've not tried the auto youtube thing cos recently stuff stuff I'm watching is usually music vids, englishdude's skydiving vids or already had captions on it cos it's disabled people being conscious of it.

I had to type in what I said, which took about 20 minutes longer than making the video. If I do this again, I'll write the script first. But then I uploaded the text, and YouTube's automatic subtitle program matched it to the speech.

Really isn't bad, is it?

Ah, I thought you meant the youtube speech to text thing that apparently exists. if you type in the text it isn't that clever to time it ok to actual speech but still easier than time matching entirely on its own.

It's a lot better than no subs! :)

Very interested to hear you!

I always imagined you sounding... well rather stupidly (on my part) American.

I think the U.S. Needs an Aussie channel so I can get used to how it sounds. Every time I hear Lythie talk it's a strange and novel experience, but Brits don't do that to me...

(I am totally making a long comment...)

Once I'm in the wrong timezone, or back in the right one, holler if there's any things you want your mac to do that it doesn't seem to. Mad rush for the next couple of days until I fly off though. Anything you want brought back from the USA ?

And hasn't richard got an armful of random usb mice around in the meantime, or are you waiting for a particularly special one ?

Erm... I am remarkably good at destroying mice. We only have one functioning mouse left, and even then it doesn't quite work properly! ;D

I always want stuff from the US, but doubt there's much you could carry. Unless you want to get me some Pokemon DVDs as a birthday present? *hint*

Is there a handy way to identify pokemon DVDs not already owned by an H-L ? Should think I can find some if I know what ones to look out for.
