So, in an attempt to get back into the good habit of reading actual literature for pleasure as opposed to manga/manhua/comics, I picked up a copy of some of the Marquis de Sade's writings. It has Justine and Philosophy in the Boudoir, amoung other things. De Sade's writing seems to polarize people into two camps: those who love him and those who find the work...unsavory, to say the least. Having never read anything of his before, the controversy is like an irresistible magnet drawing me ever nearer. I am COMPELLED to read it and find out for myself just how great or terrible the work is.

In fact, I think I shall dedicate my entire summer reading list to controversial literature. Next up should be Nabokov's Lolita. And Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus, if I can find a copy of it anywhere; it's less scandalous and more grotesque, however. Anyone care to recommend me any other titles?

I'm also doing my best to be less of a hermit and actually interact with people over the summer, since I won't be taking any classes that would eat up my time and rob me of a social life for the next couple of months. Because I pretty much work straight through the weekend, it does cut into my traditional gaming time, but I can at least drop in on the last few hours of the LARP every second Saturday. Also, one of my friends wants to start up a D&D campaign. Being the geek that I am, I have to join. This is, however, entirely dependent upon the day(s) and time(s) that he desires to hold the games. My previously noted work schedule would prevent me from playing in any games held between 7:00-11:00 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, as well as any 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Saturdays. There is, of course, the possibility of picking up extra shifts when others are unable or unwilling to come in for their usual times, but it's stupid to limit my fun just because of something that may or may not happen. Anyway, my sister an I have been spending a fair amount of time out of the house this week, so I think I'm making progress in the social life department. =3

I have some spare canvasboard and lots of paint, so I need to keep my skills up and do some painting this summer. I also want to fill at least one large sketchbook and learn to sew. And lose some weight. Hey, I have a lot of extra time on my hands, why shouldn't I use it for self-improvement?
