If this story was the reason for your existence, you'd be a hopeless romantic too.
When my mom was maybe a year out of high school, she went to Guam for a month to visit my aunt Carol and uncle Bill with her twin sister (my aunt Joan.) My uncle was in the Navy and was stationed there for some time.
After a long and uneventful flight, Mom and Aunt Joan landed on Guam and realized that they had no way of contacting Aunt Carol and Uncle Bill - They lived on base and one cannot simply open up an Armed Forces phone book at the civilian air port. So they sat outside the airport on their matching luggage and waited to be picked up. Luckily, it's a fairly small island and everyone that worked with my uncle knew that my mom and aunt were arriving that day. So when enough people had seen twin teenage girls sitting outside the airport, the story got back to my uncle and he hurried to pick them up and promised them a fun night at the officers club that night.
When my uncle was off duty he picked up Mom, Aunt Joan and Aunt Carol and took them all to the club where a bunch of his friends were also hanging out. My Aunt Joan was already engaged (to my Mom's ex boyfriend, but that's a different story) and Mom was the only single girl there. Uncle Bill introduced Mom to a charming sailor named Michael with whom he worked in SatCom. They talked all night and made plans to see each other the next day. Depending on Mikes work schedule, they saw each other every day or night that they were both on the island. Mike had orders to leave Guam on July 4th and was to report to San Diego several days later.
He asked my Mom to marry him a week before he left. She wore her engagement ring (and wedding band) on the plane home to Sacramento. Mike drove from San Diego to Sacramento every weekend to be with my Mom before they were married a few months later. It was the only time that they were apart aside from his deployments until he was killed.
My Mom and Dad were in love at first sight. She often jokes that she had to travel a long way to find Mr. Right, but that they both knew they were meant for each other in an instant.
I had my mom tell me the story again over lunch in Sausalito yesterday - she always gets the look of a young girl in love when she recalls that time of her life.
