Thanks to those who made it to Fresh Ground Comics Friday. I had not been to FGC, or the Safari Cup in years myself and was not sure what to expect. The show started quite late, but this was usually the case. Comedy seems to run on something close to "band time", but to a lesser extent. There were very few people there as 8 approached, but by 8:30 (about when they actually got going) the place was pretty close to full. Some people came later than that and, in the end, there were more people than chairs.
It was fun doing stand up for the first time in years and I think I did my set at approx. 90%. 95% would have been better, but I didn't finish writing stuff until about 7:50 and never rehearsed it as a whole. I like making it as hard on myself as possible.
For those who couldn't make it this time, I think there will be a show December 19th. That is ahead of Christmas enough that it shouldn't matter too much, but I am not certain. Perhaps I will be allowed to perform at this one too. I think I will do Comickaze (sp) tonight, since I told Mike McCall that I would. This is at
The Barking Kudu at 9ish. Work two jobs today, so I can't get there until about 9:15. Last week was the only time I have been and it didn't start until about 9:30. It is totally free!!! and last time there were 10 or so comics. nobody did a very long set though and it is kind of dark, so nobody would be too offended if people left before the show ends.
There was no way I am writing all new material before this show, although I have two bits that I didn't use on Friday (due to time constraints mostly). I will probably use at least one of those new things and then do some "tested" material, which for me means that I have done it once before. I most likely will not use more than one, if any, of the bits from Friday. I refer to my routines as collections of "bits" rather than jokes, since my stuff is structured rather differently than most comedians. It tends to resemble one-person sketch comedy more than a string of jokes.
