A Tear Relating to Tanning Hides

Apr 19, 2011 20:35

Yesterday morning when I woke up, my brain was just not working right. After neutralizing a batch of  pickling hide products with baking soda, I became convinced that I hit the wrong bin. I went out and *bought* three pounds of baking soda, began to neutralize the *other* bin, only to discover that originally, *no error had been made*. What a mofo pain in my ass! It took me from 10 in the morning 'till 4 o'clock this afternoon to get the bins set, the solution brewed up on the stove and the skins in the alum treatment.

In the process of tanning are:
-4 deer hides
-1 sheep skin
-1 goat hide
-2 rabbit skins
-1 goat scrotum
-1 deer head
-1 rabbit head
-4 deer legs with hoof material
-8+ deer legs with no hoof material.

They should be ready to "break in" the week after Beltane ( : .
