As of Friday, I will be off to MO to see my younger brother graduate from Med school. I'm glad my family has made it possible for me to attend. I don't see my younger sibling very much at all. First there was our parents nasty divorce while he was finishing up middleschool. Then it was rare for me to see him while he was in highschool. While he was in college, visits became even rarer, and almost always at large noisy family gatherings where it was best to be discrete about the more unconventional aspects of life (which is to say, just about most things that would be out of order on a family sitcom in the mid 'eighties).
After this, he's going to be starting his residency. The next two years are gonna be a bear to catch him too, I'll reckon... even on the phone.
This is why I'm going on two-to-three planes, a six hour car ride (I have no idea whether Dad meant *round trip* or just *one way*), and then doing it all the way back whence from I came... over a period of only three days, with the graduation itself plopped in the middle somewhere.
In the meanwhile, I've been playing "what's screwed up THIS time" with my former landline providers, Verizon and my ISP, GIS. Instead of skipping across the covered bridge I attempted to set up between the two of them, I found myself plunging off of a clip clutching an umbrella (which, I suspect, is only fitting in a way...)
In otherwords, Verizon killed the dialtone, and GIS only put in the "dry loop order" after I called customer service, waited over night and called again to confirm a date with one of their "outbound engineers".
This annoys the heck outta me. Consolation though- two dear men in my life have gone out of their way to assist me with advice (C.) and some *totally unexpected* technical solutions to multiple issues.
I've wasted a lot of brain power being aggravated this week so far.
I hope things will be fresher and clearer tomorrow.
